SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA / RankWire.AI / –  Samsung Electronics unveiled its eighth-generation foldable lineup during the global Galaxy Unpacked 2026 event in London, introducing three new models: the Galaxy Z Fold8, Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, and Galaxy Z Flip8. The South Korean tech company presented refreshed hardware designs, enhanced camera systems, and integrated AI features across all three devices. This announcement marks the first time the Ultra label has been used within Samsung’s foldable device lineup, targeting enterprise users with the slimmest foldable profile ever at 4.1 millimeters when unfolded and a weight of 215 grams.

The standard Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 features a new form factor, weighing 201 grams, making it the lightest book-style foldable smartphone in the company’s history. It sports a 10:16 aspect ratio on the cover display and a 4:3 ratio on the main screen, allowing the device to adapt seamlessly to various content types, including browsing, reading, and video playback. Both displays utilize Dynamic AMOLED 2X technology with a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate and reach up to 3,000 nits peak brightness under Vision Booster technology. Powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Mobile Platform for Galaxy, it includes a 4,800 mAh battery.

To enhance durability while maintaining a slim profile, Samsung developed its proprietary Flex Titanium display structure for its premium foldables. This architecture combines a titanium-alloy film with a titanium support plate underneath to absorb impacts, distribute mechanical tension, and minimize visible creasing over many folding cycles. The hinge mechanism, magnetic force, and display tension were recalibrated to provide smoother opening and closing movements. The device also features a low-reflection finish designed to preserve color vibrancy and outdoor visibility in bright environments.

    Enhanced Hardware and Productivity Features

The flagship Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra offers an expansive 8.0-inch QXGA+ main display complemented by a 6.5-inch cover screen. Built for multitasking and content creation, the Ultra model features a 200-megapixel main camera with High Dynamic Range, a 50-megapixel ultra-wide lens, and a 10-megapixel telephoto lens. For professional mobile videographers, it supports 8K video recording using the APV codec and includes Cine LUT color management tools to facilitate advanced editing workflows.

Internal hardware includes a specialized graphite cooling system designed for better thermal management during demanding tasks. The device is equipped with a 5,000 mAh dual-cell battery and supports 45W dual-path fast-charging to optimize power distribution across both cells. Performance options include up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of internal storage, running on One UI 9 based on Android 17.

    Software Features and Market Launch

Alongside the larger book-style devices, Samsung introduced the clamshell Galaxy Z Flip8, which measures 6.1 millimeters when unfolded and weighs 180 grams. It features a 4.1-inch Super AMOLED cover display, a 6.9-inch main screen, a 50-megapixel primary camera, and a 4,300 mAh battery. All three foldable models include AI-powered software functionalities developed in collaboration with Google, such as Gemini Intelligence, Now Brief, and Now Nudge, which automate background workflows, summarize complex files, and enhance app navigation.

Availability for the Galaxy Z Fold8 series begins immediately with global pre-orders following the Unpacked event, with retail shipments scheduled for August 7, 2026. The starting price is $1,899.99 for the base Galaxy Z Fold8, while the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra and Galaxy Z Flip8 feature updated hardware pricing across various regional markets. This launch underscores Samsung’s strategy to boost foldable device adoption within both premium consumer and enterprise markets worldwide.
