EL ALAMEIN, EGYPT / RankWire.AI / – A five-year wheat supply contract valued at up to US$500 million between the UAE and Egypt has been officially activated. Al Dahra Agriculture Trading will deliver imported wheat to Egypt’s General Authority for Supply Commodities as part of this arrangement. The financing for these purchases is facilitated through the Abu Dhabi Exports Office. This agreement formalizes a framework established in 2023 and sets the guidelines for wheat transactions between Al Dahra and GASC over the next five years.

The signing ceremony took place on August 26, 2026, at Egypt’s Cabinet of Ministers headquarters in El Alamein. Egyptian Supply and Internal Trade Minister Sherif Farouk attended the event representing GASC as its chairman. Al Dahra’s co-founder and managing director Khadim Abdullah Al Darei was also present. Officials did not specify the volume of wheat covered by the contract, nor did they reveal shipment schedules, origin points, annual purchase targets, or the pricing methods to be used for individual transactions.
This new arrangement builds upon a financing scheme announced by the UAE and Egypt in August 2023. Under that framework, ADEX provided US$100 million in revolving credit for wheat and other vital commodities. The facility was designed for annual renewal over five years, enabling a potential financing total of up to US$500 million. The original framework involved Egypt’s finance and international cooperation ministries alongside GASC. The current agreement clarifies how Al Dahra will supply wheat via that existing financing structure.
Five-year Plan Advances to Wheat Supply Implementation
ADEX functions as the export-finance branch of the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, supporting purchases linked to UAE exporters. Its 2023 agreement with Egyptian authorities covered wheat and other essential commodities supplied through Al Dahra. The revolving credit scheme allowed for annual renewal during the five-year period. This new supply agreement does not establish a new US$500 million credit facility but instead provides the commercial framework for GASC to buy imported wheat from Al Dahra using the existing ADEX financing arrangement.
Since 2007, Al Dahra has maintained agricultural operations in Egypt. Its activities include farms in Toshka and East Oweinat. In 2023, the company reported cultivating approximately 28,000 hectares in Egypt. Over the past three years, it supplied more than 180,000 tons of wheat to the Egyptian government. At that time, Al Dahra stated that around 85% of the produce from its Egyptian farms was sold locally. Today, it runs an agricultural platform serving over 40 markets worldwide.
UAE Export Financing Continues to Support Imported Wheat Purchases
The agreement signed at El Alamein pertains to imported wheat supplied to GASC, although Al Dahra also produces crops within Egypt. In 2023, the company identified itself as Egypt’s largest private-sector wheat and corn producer. The new pact involves a separate import route backed by UAE export financing. GASC remains responsible for procurement under this arrangement. Neither GASC nor Al Dahra has disclosed the total tonnage of wheat deliveries covered by the five-year contract.
The total value of the program remains capped at up to US$500 million over five years, following the structure set in 2023. No shipment schedule or list of supplying countries has been made public by Al Dahra or GASC. Additionally, the pricing formula for individual purchases has not been revealed. As of August 27, 2026, the agreement officially links Al Dahra’s wheat supplies to GASC with the existing ADEX financing program, marking the operational phase of this five-year arrangement.
