This figure reflects a 13.6% increase compared to the same period in the previous year. Additionally, total profits grew by 19.3%, reaching 1.79 trillion yuan. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology reported that the industry’s profit margin stood at 8.6%. This percentage was 0.7 points higher than in the prior year. The data encompasses key segments of China’s rapidly expanding digital economy.

Leading regional digital markets in China continued to play a dominant role during this period. The top 10 provincial-level markets collectively produced 17.21 trillion yuan in revenue, marking a 13.2% growth from the previous year. These regions accounted for 83.1% of the nation’s total digital industry revenue. They also contributed to 87% of the overall sector’s revenue growth. Guangdong, Jiangsu, Beijing, Shanghai, and Zhejiang remained among the country’s most significant digital industry hubs.
Growth in Central China surpassed the national average for the digital sector. The region’s revenue reached 2.86 trillion yuan, representing a 28.3% increase year-on-year. The country continued expanding its communications and computing infrastructure during the first half of 2026. By the end of June, China had established 5.102 million 5G base stations. There were also 32.86 million 10G PON ports supporting gigabit network services. The number of 5G RedCap base stations reached 2.247 million.
Expansion in Computing Power and 5G Infrastructure
China’s intelligent computing capacity hit 2,185 EFLOPS using FP16 measurement during this period. This represented a 177% increase from the previous year. Overall utilization across computing facilities was at 71.4%. The country also developed 52 intelligent computing centers, each equipped with more than 10,000 accelerator cards. Nationwide, over 80,000 private 5G industry networks were operational. Authorities also tracked more than 26,000 active projects integrating 5G with industrial internet technologies across China.
The digital manufacturing sector achieved notable advances in output, revenue, and profits. The value-added output of the electronics industry increased by 14.8% from the previous year. Leading electronic information manufacturers generated 12.15 trillion yuan in revenue, up 17.8%. Their combined profits surged by 66%, reaching 703.6 billion yuan. The growth was driven by sectors such as integrated circuits, computer manufacturing, and specialized electronic materials. During this period, electronics output growth outpaced overall industrial growth by 9.4 percentage points.
Software and Internet Services Continue Robust Expansion
China’s software and information technology services industry maintained its growth trajectory alongside digital manufacturing. Revenue for the sector increased by 9.5% during the first half of 2026. Software product revenue grew by 6.9%, while income from information technology services rose by 10.4%. Major internet companies reported a 10.1% rise in revenue. Their total profits also increased by 16.6% compared to the same period last year. Telecommunications business volume grew by 8.3% when measured at constant prices.
During the first six months of 2026, China’s digital industry expanded at a faster pace than its overall economy. The National Bureau of Statistics reported an economic growth rate of 4.7% for the period. The sectors of information transmission, software, and information technology services achieved a 10.7% growth in value added. China’s digital industry comprises electronic information manufacturing, telecommunications, software, information technology services, and internet-related businesses. Collectively, these segments contributed trillions of yuan in revenue across the country during this period.
