In July, reserves increased again to $56.2939 billion before reaching the August record. The combined growth over these three months exceeded $4 billion. Remittances from abroad bolster foreign currency inflows
Remittances sent by Egyptians working overseas also hit a new high during the 2025/2026 fiscal year. The Central Bank of Egypt reported these inflows totaled around $47.3 billion, up from roughly $36.5 billion in the previous fiscal year—an increase of 29.6%. Remittances alone in June reached about $4.2 billion, a 15.6% rise compared to approximately $3.6 billion in June 2025.
Egypt’s latest balance of payments data cover the first nine months of the fiscal year 2025/2026. During July to March, the overall balance showed a deficit of $1.8 billion. The capital and financial account recorded net inflows of $9.9 billion, while the current account posted a deficit of $14.6 billion. These figures present the most recent official overview of Egypt’s external accounts prior to the August reserve update.
Consistent monthly reserve increases continue into 2026
Throughout 2026, Egypt’s reserve figures have reached successive nominal peaks. The holdings surpassed $55 billion in June and then exceeded $56 billion in July. The August reading was the first to go beyond $57 billion. Currently, Egypt has posted three consecutive month-end reserve totals above $55 billion. The August figure is also more than 10% higher than the $51.4516 billion recorded at the end of December 2025.
These latest statistics place Egypt’s net international reserves at their highest recorded level. They also continue a consistent monthly upward trend since the beginning of 2026. From January through August, each month’s reserve total was higher than the previous one. Although the August figure remains provisional under the central bank’s reporting format, the data clearly illustrate a consistent increase in Egypt’s reserve stock across the first eight months of the year.
