CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA / RankWire.AI / – Apple has launched the new iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, introducing enhancements in camera technology, battery longevity, and processing capabilities. Both devices are powered by the latest A20 Pro chip and incorporate a redesigned vapor chamber to sustain high performance. Additionally, Apple has included a smaller Dynamic Island and upgraded camera controls aimed at professional users. The most notable camera update is the 48-megapixel Fusion Main camera with variable aperture. Its lens features six internal blades, enabling adjustment between four aperture settings. Users can modify aperture, shutter speed, and white balance directly within the Camera app. A histogram is available to display exposure levels while framing a scene. The new imaging system also introduces additional texture and grain controls for Photographic Styles, while video users can apply Cinematic effects after capturing footage.
Apple is also rolling out Reference Image, a feature designed for verifying whether a photograph has been altered. This opt-in option records signed sensor data when a picture is taken in Reference mode. Private Cloud Compute processes this data into a reference image for comparison within the Photos app. Apple intends to support the SynthID standard further through a software update later this year. Image metadata will also serve as a method to identify AI-generated or edited images.
Variable aperture enhances photographers’ creative control
The A20 Pro chip is built on a 2-nanometer process, combining a six-core CPU with a seven-core GPU. Apple claims the GPU performs up to 40% faster than the A19 Pro. The processor features a Dual 16-core Neural Engine with a total of 32 cores, optimized for artificial intelligence tasks. A new thermal design places the processor nearer to a larger vapor chamber. Apple states this setup can deliver up to 40% higher sustained performance compared to previous models.
Battery capacity also sees an upgrade, especially on models that rely solely on eSIM. Apple rates the iPhone 18 Pro for up to 36 hours of video playback, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max can last up to 45 hours under the same test. The Pro models can reach 50% charge in approximately 15 minutes with compatible wired accessories. eSIM-only versions will be available in markets including Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE, along with several other countries outside the region.
iOS 27 introduces Siri AI integration to the new Pro series
Running on iOS 27, the iPhone 18 Pro lineup supports the upcoming generation of Apple Intelligence. Siri AI enters beta on September 14 for supported devices set to English. Apple plans to expand support to French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish in October. The assistant can utilize information from messages, emails, and photos when users ask for help. It can also respond to on-screen content and work seamlessly with the Camera app. Apple Intelligence combines on-device processing with Private Cloud Compute for supported cloud-based tasks.
Both models will be available in burgundy, glacier, silver, and black, with storage options from 256GB to 2TB. The iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,199 in the United States, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max begins at $1,299. Preorders will be accepted starting at 5 a.m. Pacific Time on September 12. Retail sales will commence on September 18 in the initial markets, with an additional 20 countries and regions receiving the iPhone 18 Pro lineup starting September 25.
